Minh Hoai Nguyen – Biography

Minh Hoai is a Professor of Computer Vision at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) and the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. Prior to his current position, he served as an Assistant Professor and later attained tenure as an Associate Professor at Stony Brook University from 2014 to 2024. During his tenure at Stony Brook University, Hoai took a leave of absence to contribute to VinAI in Vietnam, where he established and led the Computer Vision research group while heading the Smart Edge product division and overseeing the AI engineering activities.

Prof. Hoai earned a Bachelor of Software Engineering from the University of New South Wales in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University in 2012. His research interests encompass computer vision and machine learning. Hoai has garnered several accolades, including recognition as a Gold Medalist in the International Mathematical Olympiad, recipient of the CVPR Best Student Paper Award, and induction into the Dean's Millionaire Club (for achievements in securing research grants).

Prof. Hoai is an active member in the Computer Vision community, fulfilling roles as a reviewer, area chair, doctor consortium chair, demo chair, and organizer of workshops and conferences. He currently serves as the General Co-Chair of the Asian Conference on Computer Vision 2024.
